National Night Out culminates annually on the first Tuesday in August to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. It also provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together in a positive way.

The LAPD's West Valley police station will host a movie night in the park screening "How To Train Your Dragon" at Randall D Simmons Park. We will update this event with more details once it's been made available.

On Tuesday, August 5th at 5:30PM, Los Angeles City Council District 4, The office of Councilmember Nithya Raman will be hosting a zoom meeting along with the Dept. Of Transportation to review Phase 1 of the Encino Hills cut-through traffic mitigation efforts set start in the coming months. Please join the call to hear about the plan.

On August 23 the 818 Week Coalition is hosting “Saluting Our Firefighting Heroes: Breakfast with the Brave”, a free community pancake breakfast honoring the Los Angeles Fire Department heroes who protected the San Fernando Valley during the January 2025 firestorms. 

This family-friendly gathering will bring together first responders and their families, community leaders, Valley families, businesses and nonprofit partners for a morning of unity, sharing, celebration and heartfelt thanksgiving.
 
The breakfast will include:
• A family-style pancake breakfast
• Fire station tours and engine displays
• Family-friendly activities and entertainment
• Community health resources, safety, and disaster readiness resources
• Community and nonprofit resources
• Health screenings and disaster prep tools
• Music, speeches, and a chance to connect face-to-face with the heroes who protected us
 
The 818 Week Coalition is a united network of parents and caregivers, faith-based organizations, business leaders, volunteers, artists, nonprofit agencies, educators, healthcare professionals, and other key stakeholders dedicated to strengthening and celebrating San Fernando Valley communities. It was formed by the Insight Center for Community Economic Development in 2023 to engage residents in resident-led activities that improve their lives and communities.

Sharon joined the San Fernando Valley chapter of The Climate Reality Project as Digital Communications Coordinator in October 2020 and became Chapter Chair in July 2024. She is a physicist with a passion for native plants and ecosystems and is working on habitat restoration in her yard and neighborhood."

LOCATION IS ENCINO COMMUNITY CENTER’S ENCINO WOMEN’S CLUB.  (ECC address is 4935 Balboa Blvd., Encino, CA 91316)

The Club is behind the Encino Community Center. Parking will be at the center, with an open gate to the back entrance of the Club. There is a ramp available on the Paseo Robles entrance side.  (4924 Paso Robles Ave) is street parking only. 

Snacks and Drinks will be available. Please bring your own cups and utensils.
